Knowing how to eat healthy can be confusing, and at times downright frustrating.
There is so much contradictory information out there that it can take all the motivation out of improving your dietary habits.
Today, I want to challenge you to simplify your approach by focusing on the fundamentals.
If you take this on and use it to make healthier choices over the long run, you'll be rewarded with all of the following:
Do one or more of those things sound like something you'd benefit from?
If so, I encourage you to take on this simple nutrition challenge.
Each day, you are going to give yourself one point for every item you accomplish on the list below. Add up your points at the end of the day, seeking to work your way towards achieving your first Perfect 10 point day.
Once you do, the ongoing challenge will be to maintain the highest average score until you've reached the point where these habits are ingrained in your daily routine.
So what are the 10 things you need to do to achieve that perfect score?
Point 1 - Drink a 16 ounce bottle/glass of plain water
Point 2 - Drink a second 16 ounce bottle/glass of plain water
Point 3 - Drink a third 16 ounce bottle/glass of plain water
Point 4 - Drink a 16 ounce bottle/glass of plain water
Point 5 - Eat a quality protein serving (20 - 30 grams)
Point 6 - Eat a second quality protein serving (20 - 30 grams)
Point 7 - Eat a third quality protein serving (20 - 30 grams)
Point 8 - Eat a full vegetable serving
Point 9 - Eat a second full vegetable serving
Point 10 - Eat a third full vegetable serving
Now you're probably asking yourself, "What about all the other aspects of healthy eating?"
Yes, there is more to a good diet than consuming water, proteins and vegetables.
However, when you consume these three nutrients at sufficient levels all the time a few very positive things happen for you.
First, they'll make you feel fuller which will reduce your urge to snack on poor foods.
They'll help your cells operate more efficiently, which will make you feel more energetic.
That same cellular efficiency will improve brain functioning, since 20% of your body's energy is needed for your brain alone!
Your immune system will function at a higher level, strengthening your body's natural ability to fight off infection.
If you choose to take on this challenge, I'd ask that you do two things:
1) Use the comment section below to let us know the first day you achieve a Perfect 10. It can be this week, next week, months from now, or even a year from now. Whenever you hit it, let me know!
2) Use the comment section to send over any questions if you are confused about any aspect of this. I don't want miscommunication to be the reason someone doesn't take action to improve themselves.
This challenge is for everyone - parents and youth athletes, members and non-members.
Let's get back to the fundamentals of good nutrition and make healthy eating as simple as it should be!
